Wild to remember that not everyone grew up in a cultural melting pot. Like, of course I know major Iranian holidays, there were tons of Iranian kids at school. Same goes for kids from Taiwan, Ukraine, Ethiopia-- you name it.
The idea of hearing about a country in the news growing up and not immediately thinking about how it impacts a teacher, classmate, or someone you played with at the community center?
Completely unimaginable to me.
