FWIW, I'm on team "let's remake computing from the ground up in an environment that's visual / canvas first, so everything either has a position or is a relation between things that have a position", so there's never not some sort of visualization and that's explicitly a part of what a thing is. (We have that in text too, you just kinda take character rendering for granted most of the time)
