Maybe it's the mist/spray (though there wasn't much since only very little actual flow). I was more thinking it might have to do with relatively warm days (above 0℃/32℉) and very cold nights, and the resulting thawing/refreezing cycles... Been been keeping an eye on night temps in that canyon for weeks, then decided to go the morning after it was -18℃/0℉ there... Best of luck on your ice adventures! :)
