High marks for Simple Justice, the first entry in the Benjamin Justice series by John Morgan Wilson. A disgraced journalist living with the memory of a lover lost to AIDS, Justice lives in a converted garage on the property of some friends while spending most of his time numbing himself with alcohol. When his former boss visits and offers Justice a chance to get back in the game the juices start flowing, and before long Ben is knee deep in unraveling the events surrounding a shooting outside a gay bar in West Hollywood.
