Follow packs are just people trying to copy Bluesky, assuming that Bluesky got more users because of that when in fact there are 32 more probably causes to explain that.
It's like journalists trying to explain why the stock market went up or down and coming up with nonsense correlations or not even correlations.
A user should probably be able to live just off of relay feeds at least for their first 6 months of Nostr, but Bluesky hasn't deployed that feature, nor X, nor any other platform (because they can't) so the people who suffer from severe status quo bias and write the manual of UX best practices will never recognize relay feeds as a cool and valid feature.
