A thing I learned about rice is that rice cultivation is basically a cheat code for successful agriculture. Once it's set up, unlike a lot of other plants, every time you grow rice in a spot it is then easier to grow rice in that same spot the next time. I think crop rotation only occurs to control various kinds of weeds.

Beats the snot out of what you have to do for wheat production, and what production only exists as it is for food storage purposes.
