2. The core issue is that while there is solid correlation between voting for extremists and low trust, it doesn't really hold at societal level. Nordic states are high-trust; all four have fully normalized the extreme right as participants in center-right coalitions. The Netherlands has a far right-led coalition. In Northern Europe, only Germany (and Belgium if you count it) has maintained the firewall, for unique historical reasons.
