I regret that I pulled the ripcord on my mathematics education before getting a grounding in all the modern basics. In hopes of getting corrected by you or one of our mutuals, I will display my ignorance.

In software we have this idea of defining how operators act before using them. Equality can be defined a lot of different ways, y'know? One can define in code what the equal sign should mean, depending on the arguments provided -- its context.

Does this overlap with what Noether is saying here? Or is she pointing somewhere else?
