Depends on what your definition of 'sensible' is I guess :) Peers come in all sorts and shapes. There's the commercial ones, there's the ideological ones (for some definition of ideological), and anything in between.

The servers I'm peering with are mostly just hobbyists like myself.

You don't really need a server of course, to get back into it. A newsreader and an account with eternal-september.org or one of the other free providers will do for most people.

Of course, if like me you're a bit of a self-hosting obsessive, hosting your own newsnet server is great :)

I just checked, I started my current server about half a year ago iirc, and it's 4.3GB of articles so far. One can always expire articles after a while if one wants to conserve disk space. I know I'll be keeping an eye on it, if it grows to say 10s of gigabytes I'm going to start expiring articles for sure.
