108 years. Game 7. Extra innings. Rain delay. 8-7 final.

The Cubs ended the longest drought in professional sports history on November 2, 2016. Wrigley Field went absolutely berserk.

Then five years passed.

Block 715,900. December 26, 2021. Someone waited five whole years and then inscribed this into Bitcoin:

"Chicago Cubs won baseball World Series in Game 7 on Nov 2, 2016 after 108 yrs"

Why five years later? We don't know. Why Bitcoin and not Twitter? We can guess.

They wanted it permanent. They wanted the record to exist in a place that couldn't be altered, couldn't be taken away, couldn't be deleted when the platform changes ownership or the account gets banned.

Sports history lives in highlight reels and Wikipedia and newspaper archives, all of which can be edited or lost. This one lives in a cryptographic chain secured by hundreds of exahashes of work.

The Cubs haven't been back to the Series since. But block 715,900 don't know that. It's just holding the fact of that night, for whoever comes looking.

Bitcoin don't delete.
