I'm quite sure that in case the humanity survived 5-10 more centuries, the rights of animals would be equally respected by many of our descendants, and they would argue that this is quite "natural law" for them.
I'm even not starting to talk how people now are treating AIs or robots with LLMs or their pets. No slaves, really?
In ancient Greece or Rome also were citizens and slaves; nothing wrong for a citizen to have a lot of slaves. What natural law?
