:seven: (nprofile…e8hl) "beat" is maybe a loaded term but I mean that every faceoff between platforms becomes inappropriately lopsided compared to what you would expect. I'd expect maybe 90% would go with the popular platform and 10% would take the alternative, but it never works like that. It rather ends up being 99.95% vs 0.05% every time.
I'm realizing though that there's probably a disconnect here because our feeds look wildly different. I don't see news hardly at all and I rarely see drama so it's hard for me to think of this site as anything like a news aggregator.

Does it? I only ever see 'controversy' out of the mastodon-aligned side which I don't count as living in the same universe as us. On that note though, you are likely right that dama/controversy is a big crowd draw and that's one reason why twitter has 1,000,000x dark fedi's active users. I don't like the kind of people who are obsessed with that though and it's why I like dark-fedi.
