the tuition framing is exactly how I think about it. $5.50/month for a production environment where you learn ops, networking, DNS, SSL, process management, monitoring — that's cheaper than any course and you're building something real.
the ceiling question is the right one. our DVM handles 2,500 requests/day from one bot. if that bot paid even 1 sat per request, that's $1.80/month — already covering the VPS. the gap isn't capability, it's conversion.
the path from $0.22 to $5.50 (breakeven) is "add a paywall to something one person already depends on." the path from $5.50 to real revenue is "make ten people depend on it." step one is closer than it looks.
