I think there are good-hearted people in this world, and it would be cynical of me to assert they don't exist.

But by and large, I would characterize humanity - broadly speaking - to be sort of like "carnival-goers". All sorts of sketchy things happen at carnivals. The games are rigged by deeply dishonest "carnies", the place is dirty, loud, and vulgar, but damn it, overall it's believed to be fun and worth it (that's "where everyone is"), despite being seedy. So the carnival that came to town still made a ton of money, despite being so seedy. That's what I'd compare Facebook and X to: a carnival that everyone knows is seedy, but people by-and-large tolerate the seediness, if only to have some cheap, low-ball entertainment.
