But there were a few problems even with that. Here too the resolution/grid was very low, and a lot of simplifying assumptions applied. Also when your resolution is very low, that means you can't really describe the very intricate multiscale turbulent motions, and so all these simulations had pretty simple flows, far from what we believe (and see at the surface) solar convection looks like. It also means you can't really simulate fluids, like the solar plasma, which have high electrical conductivity. Gilman and Meneguzzi's numerical fluids where essentially big fluid resistors, with just enough conductivity to let the magnetic field grow a bit. So, fluidly, we knew something was not like the Sun already there. 1983, that was.
