I'm glad for your success, and it looks nice from outside.
You will likely need to reinforce the stairs with wood plates for safety and comfort, but for rain protection for the shelter's front.. I think if you could build something like those retractable swim pool covers to cover that part, it would likely protect you from usual rain.
