"content": "The Time Kenya's Government Burned 105 Tons of Ivory.\n\nFor centuries, the demand for ivory has caused great suffering to innumerable elephants.\n\nOn April 30, 2016, 105 tons of seized poached tusks from approximately 10,000 elephants were destroyed in Nairobi National Park during a public ceremony.\n\nThe tusks, methodically arranged on metallic pyramids, were burned as if on funeral pyres. The event, widely covered by the media, was intended to make the general public more aware of the struggle to eliminate elephant poaching.\n\nWith this symbolic gesture, the presidents of Kenya and Gabon wished to alert the whole world to the gravity of the traffic in ivory. The survival of about 500,000 African elephants is at stake. https://image.nostr.build/38436d9d81d30f096b3e801e65e73547e03441c0bccb44f0470ae943e6ba2ebd.jpg https://image.nostr.build/35019f1d08037b21786ace42ed1d8d4271c6ba45e89cc6caade5130b5639017b.jpg https://image.nostr.build/d401ac19dd07a4ed967f37ced44ce9884ded5a982eccccda7c8b5c654e26bacc.jpg https://image.nostr.build/0e6c635f5c9d29b9e3cc5d5653297f841c38ca33375427dd9d4c6db741e720da.jpg https://image.nostr.build/f642ebc64740541141876a9ceb726ddf1984b4cd98ad06de909a7d2f651f6a95.jpg ",
