have you read any Edouard Louis? He writes (autobiographically) about this very issue in France. He's an incredibly gracious person because he absolutely hated the way he was brought up, and the way his family members behaved towards him and others, and could have turned his back on it all, but has instead dedicated himself to trying to understand the underlying motivations and political sabotage of the working class.
