TLDR: the real issue is that if we do not win this war American empire is finished.
the entire basis for the Petrodollar is that we militarily control the region that produces the oil. Iran basically said not anymore you don't - it is ours now.
Iran is now saying they won't reopen the strait under any conditions until both Trump and Netanyahu are removed from power.
The problem is that even if they're both removed from power and the strait is reopened Petrodollar is still finished - because we have ceded control of the region to Iran and the dollar which was previously backed by the ability of our military to control the flow of oil and dictate what currency is used to trade it - is now not backed by anything.

Honestly if i was made president today the 1st thing i would do is nuke Iran. I would drop probably about 50 nukes on them then send in the troops and physically castrate all the Iranian men under the age 60 plus additionally amputate one leg of every man under 40 and both legs of every man under 25 including children so they can never fight back.
