Currently reading a book (out of print) called "Veronica's Bird" by Veronica Bird and Richard Newman.
While an inspirational story of how far grim determination and an unquenchable spirit can take a woman, the casual physical abuse, misogyny and the turning of a blind eye by neighbours are still prevalent, even if that degree of social deprivation isn't quite as bad.
One of the telling points about the Barbie movie was about what it could be be like to live in a world where a woman doesn't fear the consequences of saying "No" to a man.

Attitudes are learned behaviour.
We need to do a lot better.
