I'm all in favor of destroying all technology and living with the Amish. But I think in general machines are useful precisely because they don't want pensions or healthcare, never have to stop to eat or sleep, and don't have families to return to. My washing machine needs a new rubber belt every 4 years or so, that's a pretty good ROI compared to what women had to do before its invention.
