The speed of information exchange.
Humans are vulnerable to over centralisation coercion manipulation and we technologically advanced at a slower rate, dependant on the speed in which we can communicate.
Similar to evolution, the rate of change is controlled by this speed plus a pressure. Our species becomes more robust when we increase this speed.
Major example the church and the printing press. Massive jump information bandwidth all society adapted, past unfavourable extortive governance structures became unviable.
Same thing is happening now, at a faster rate. The digital age, an enormous jump in open free information which makes the modern state is no longer viable.
