I think that both parties went along with it is really the final straw for many. Agreeing with each other to hide something this size from the public.

Political parties that have held power for 100 years, that typically combined would get 80% of the vote are now polling 15% each. Neither of them will ever come back from this and I'm not sure how this will all play out.
