It seems to me that they are not so much "enjoying games" as they are "involved in escapeism". Maybe it's not so dire, and they just lack imagination and motivation regarding forging a new path, but that's a bit sad too.
Now I'm thinking of Principal Skinner, "... then make a game of it." 🤣
