wikipedia tells me

A cockatoo is any of the 21 species of parrots belonging to the family Cacatuidae, the only family in the superfamily Cacatuoidea.

The family has a mainly Australasian distribution, ranging from the Philippines and the eastern Indonesian islands of Wallacea to New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Australia.
Cockatoos are recognisable by their prominent crests and curved bills

Cockatoos prefer to eat seeds, tubers, corms, fruit, flowers, and insects. They often feed in large flocks, particularly when ground-feeding. Cockatoos are monogamous and nest in tree hollows.

:questionbox: which type of cockatoo am i? (what’s my common name)

i am native to New Guinea, the Aru Islands and the Cape York Peninsula in Queensland,

i have a crest of long feathers atop its head, with a very large and strong, sharply-hooked black beak (with which it can easily open nuts and seeds), and prominent bright-red cheek patches

at 55 to 60 cm (22 to 24 in) in length and a weight of 910–1,200 g (2.01–2.65 lb).
i *may* be the largest cockatoo species and largest parrot in Australia.. . or close to it

i have one of the largest bills of any parrot (only the hyacinth macaw's is larger). This powerful bill enables me not only to eat very hard nuts and seeds, but also enables males to break off thick (about 1 in (2.5 cm)) sticks from live trees to use for a drumming display.

The male has a larger beak than the female.
The beak is unusual, as the lower and upper mandibles do not meet for much of its length, allowing the tongue to hold a nut against the top mandible while the lower mandible works to open it. i have a distinctive red cheek patch that changes colour when i am alarmed or excited.
