I actually like the idea that at a server by server level, the choice of opt in, versus opt out can be appropriate for each community. And that the community servers can make that call, rather than a fediverse-wide fiat at what is best for everybody. Different communties have different cultures and different needs. As long as the end user has ultimate agency, which in this case they 100 percent do.
