I am more than a little concerned.

I have heard people (in person) talking about their AI interactions as if it was some sort of seer, almost god-level. The AI was definitely encouraging them to think that they had mystical, almost messianic powers. It was frightening to witness.

When you know the mechanism, when you understand that it's simply regurgitating everything that it has slurped up from the Internet, good and bad, it becomes all the more worrisome.

We need to remind people to *pay attention* to the man behind the curtain, as it were. L Frank Baum got that bit right, even if he was a racist asshole.
