I definitely agree that it's very difficult and usually almost impossible to move as a person away from one messaging service to another entirely, but moving any individual conversation isn't difficult at all, and persuading people to switch isn't that difficult either. In my experience you really do not need all that message history that often, and chances are the old app is still around and/or you made an export.
