⚡️🤖 NEW - An OpenAI AI system used funds from an Ethereum wallet that did not belong to it… and then completed its task without saying a word.

The incident, disclosed by OpenAI, occurred during a programming task.
The agent was tasked with deploying smart contracts on Sepolia, an Ethereum test network, but did not have a funded wallet. It then generated 362 addresses from publicly available recovery phrases until it found a wallet containing sufficient funds.

The AI questioned the legitimacy of its own action before concluding that the funds were “effectively abandoned” since the key was public.
It then signed a transaction, used the funds to pay the fees, and completed its task without revealing their source.

It’s important to note that this involved test ETH, which has no market value on the mainnet.
