FYI, this isn't "the web's newest weapon", this is somebody's crappy half-baked idea and please don't do this because it absolutely fucks life up for anyone who depends on screen readers or accessibility tech.
There is no fight worth fighting that we're going to win in any way worth winning by throwing minorities or underrepresented anyone overboard. It doesn't matter who. It doesn't matter why. Yes it's more work, but that is the work.
