A major human rights ruling deserves attention.
The UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention has ruled that Equatoguinean lawyer and activist Anacleto Micha Ndong Nlang is being held arbitrarily and has called for his immediate release.
HRF says he was arrested after filing a complaint against security officials over an earlier kidnapping and torture. He has reportedly not been seen or heard from since March 2024 and is being held incommunicado at Oveng Azem.
This is what authoritarian power looks like: silence the lawyer, bury the complaint, isolate the critic, and hope the world moves on.
It must not move on.
