Look, tons of the scholarship throughout the last two or three thousand years was funded by individual people who were interested enough to pay for it themselves. And since there is no monolithic church, interest comes from all over the Christian and Jewish spectrum throughout the ages.
What's even more hilarious about this effort is that the Bible's overarching message is reconciliation with God through becoming his righteous image. It's the best possible message for humanity. Whatever point you think you're making is anti-summun bonum and destructive to the human soul.
