Quite a few years ago now, I was asked to look into making the third generation iPad from stainless instead of aluminum. Steve and Jony liked the look of the iPods and thought it would carry over nicely to the iPad.

It was hard. I think we did a fairly good job, but keeping things smooth and even in stainless over large flat sections is a real challenge and I was working with some of the best folks in the world.

So you might imagine that I was super excited and curious when they were going to use stainless for the cybertruck. That’s a really tough challenge! I thought they must have done something super clever to be willing and able to ship a truck with stainless body panels.

Then I got to see one up close; the new “cheap” rwd one.

Not only is the Cybertruck a symbol of our new fascist regime, the steel panels are shockingly, embarrassingly bad.
