Also, compared to the whole rest of human history, it's still pretty new, dependent on chemistry in the nineteenth century and science and the Enlightenment. We take it all for granted nowadays. Am always fascinated by what reporters and photographers would have done with our technology in past wars and societies, and how reflection and debate would have been different.
