I have barely used any AGENTS.md files if at all.
Only like 3 skills for new stuff after training cutoff and a speciifc general workflow.
I have never had the problem of having to restate things constantly, assuming things not said, or treating me like an idiot
I use Pi with GPT 5.4/5.5, no subagents, one big session and compaction sometimes.
