As I’ve previously explained, Leyland went into the seventies moving away from badge engineering, with the FWD Maxi and Allegro being sold as Austins and the more traditional Marina being a Morris. But in 1974, Leyland introduced the sumptuously equipped ‘wood and leather’ Allegro-based Vanden Plas 1500. There was no Morris Allegro but badge engineering was back, as we shall see tomorrow.
