It’s really more about the rod length. I’d been using a 4 wt, 9' fast rod for several months, even on tight streams. Today, though, I switched to a 3 wt, 8'5" medium-fast, and that half-foot makes a surprisingly big difference 😊
I also considered going with my smallest setup, a 3 wt, 7'9" or 8', but decided against it 😉
