Grateful that somehow* I learned, when first starting to think of myself as "feminist" back in the 90s, to learn how not to take critiques of "white men 'like me'" as specifically meaning "I personally do the thing being critiqued".
One of the skills we more privileged folks need to learn is how not to put ourselves in the way when more marginalized people "punch up" at the systems that harm us all.
Momentary ego & emotional comfort are less important than coalition building.
*Maybe it was reading bell hooks? Maybe it was listening to Fugazi? Maybe it was Maybeline?
