Local mobile operators apparently weren’t satisfied with just cutting off the internet every day, so they decided to start messing with the time as well. Maybe I’m just paranoid, but three times in a row I noticed the operator adjusting the clock — and it’s not as if they’re setting it precisely either. The lag is minor, but still hundreds of times larger than what you’d get with NTP. I don’t know why they’re doing this, or if they’re even doing it intentionally, but in my case it ended up forcing a mandatory smartphone reboot. Thankfully, it’s possible to disable time synchronization with the operator.
ChatGPT tried to convince me that they use this to affect cryptography, but the lag still isn’t that significant.
