We can do better than Drivechains with only handful of opcodes because they allow any merge mined chains, but possibly with fraud or validity proofs for withdrawals, instead of mere hashrate escrow... But the hashrate escrow is possible with these opcodes as well and simpler, so probably will be done first.
I made a library for emulating these with signers, until they are hopefully adopted natively;
