There are now 2 homeless guys living in my quiet Melbourne suburb.

One has occupied a recessed fire door in a warehouse, pretty sure he works based on all the hivis (funny that autocorrects to hobos) clothing he has. Second guy has setup camp in the trees at a local park.

I’ve seen more homeless people in the CBD this week than I can ever recall, probably double.

All anecdotal of course but it’s becoming more obvious that people are struggling here and the bills are only getting worse. We’re not at San Fran levels by any stretch, but it’s also a lot worse than Melbourne has been.
You can have all the money in the world but if the society you live in is crumbling around you, you’re gonna have a bad time.

At some point money isn’t going to make you more secure and will in fact make you a target.

You can reason that a $5 wrench attack won’t happen to you because thieves can’t access your multisigged cold storage so why would they hurt you? Because “fuck you”, that’s why. Desperate people do desperate things, they will act irrationally, and if you’re surrounded by such desperation the odds of it affecting you go up exponentially.

Poverty and wealth is its own network effect; when everyone around you is poor you will get dragged down, when everyone around you is progressing in life your lot will rise also.
