It gets better though.

So, after I'd upgraded the first time after that cursed phone, I was hanging out with a friend. She was showing me the wallet she had attached to her phone case, and I was like "check out my drop resistant case". As I'm pulling it out of my purse, she's asking me why I need a drop resistant case... only to have her question answered as I proceed to drop the phone as I pull it from my purse. It hit the pavement squarely on the corner. The case did its job, the phone was fine, but if I didn't have the case, I would have gotten a magnificent spiderweb crack out of that for sure.
