Although Bill Monroe holds the title of Father of Bluegrass, without Earl Scruggs bluegrass would have been a different animal altogether. Earl Scruggs' innovative three-finger banjo playing, which became known as "Scruggs Style," is one of the defining elements of Bluegrass music, along side Bill's mandolin playing the High Lonesome vocal style. After his stint with the Bluegrass Boys he went on to have a long and fruitful musical career with Flatt & Scruggs. Here is Flatt & Scruggs playing the classic Ruben on the Grand Ole Opry Show.
