Your first claim is very definitely false.
I read the announcement myself. They claim that they're forced to stop claiming they don't sell user data because of the CCPA's broad definition of the word, citing the relevant passage of the CCPA…which enumerates a bunch of things Mozilla SHOULD NOT BE DOING!
So, yeah, no, the community's outrage about Mozilla is completely justified.
