While im getting excited about battery & hybrid railcars, its worth noting that even diesel railcars are a way more efficient forms of transport than planes or busses.
So even if we couldn't adopt the electrical tech now, we could still use railcars to reduce private passenger vehicle journeys & thus overall energy consumption.
