I perfectly understand the question you raise. However, it's important to consider that, in some contexts, this may be possible.
In Brazil, we have a single identification system that is integrated and maintained by the country's government. It's called "conta GOV.BR" (https://www.gov.br/governodigital/pt-br/identidade/conta-gov-br). This is a way for Brazilian citizens to identify themselves to the various entities they need to interact with on their journey as citizens. I understand that this is difficult to imagine for countries like the USA. Not because of the technical difficulty of operating it, but because culturally, American citizens have been led to view governments as primarily evil. They are not necessarily so. In this case, the United States government is currently evil, but that's a topic for another post.
Well then. With such a centralized identity, it's possible to implement a verification system that is good enough to mitigate the issue of spreading misinformation, harassment, and bullying, as well as reducing some types of financial scams that occur on the internet. Well, this is one possible scenario: this identification being centralized in a governmental entity.
