The difference was apparent but not in a very obvious way. That's the result I wanted.

I went back to the dry sponge technique for the larger parts of the cabinet. The interior, the sides and the inside of the doors needed broader strokes that the tiny paint brush couldn't deliver. I used a patting technique to put down the darker color, using an irregular pattern. This is actually harder to do than it seems.
