Greenland is of strategic importance for many things, but the problem is that Greenland is a capital asset. It is currently not being efficiently allocated. The state that owns it has 57000 people there, no resource development to speak of. Greenland is the key to the arctic.
Where states are concerned, this cannot be left as is. Its fine to be a little inefficient in an imprerial peace, but when things heat up this cannot continue. The empires of the world will absolutely gobble up every resource and allocate it to their ends. Many of those resources aren't physical, they're in the minds of people.
Thats what this is. The US policy of the western hemisphere being within the sphere of influence of the US, called the Monroe Doctrine, is an important asset. The cold temperatures are an asset. The geothermal is an asset. The resources underground...
This policy will not go away with Trump. It will be continued under future administrations, it will become a part of US foreign policy. All the wailing congress is doing, if the executive gives them a bill to purchase Greenland it will happen within a week.
