I built a amplifier using a chip from this same family. This is $6,000 for an amplifier chip that cost less than $10. My favorite thing about the amplifier that I built is that it will run on pretty much any power you feed it: 36 volt DC or higher and pretty much anything AC you can throw at it. It did not cost $6,000 to engineer or build it.
