I'm so old, I remember when my dad (Mr. DIY himself) brought 9yo me with him to the local hardware store, which smelled wonderfully of wood & leather, staffed by a kind bearded older guy, who on sight inspired in me the same trust & admiration I had for Santa, standing behind a wooden counter and in front of a wall covered with small wooden drawers who knew exactly what size screws you needed & exactly which drawer they were in.
I loved that place.
